JEFFERSON COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER
TC Architects is working with Jefferson County to provide a new Animal Shelter for the county’s homeless pets. This new facility will be approximately 6,900 sq. ft. and is designed to house 90 animals and provide 46 kennel runs. The new shelter includes an isolation area, medical room, grooming, and a “get acquainted” room, in addition to support areas including food prep, laundry, staff area, administrative offices, and multipurpose room.
The project will use geothermal heating and cooling to reduce the life-cycle fuel cost of the facility, as well as natural light in the animal areas. The ground breaking for this facility was in the Spring of 2010 and is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2010.
