AKRON PUBLIC SCHOOLS - RITZMAN CLC
TC Architects was selected to design this educational and community learning center, consisting of approximately 56,000 sf. This facility creates an educational environment that is inviting for students and community residents alike. The building spatial arrangements were developed utilizing the community learning center approach, where community-use functions (Gymnasium, Student Dining, Art, Music, Media Center) are clustered in one wing and classroom facilities in another. This way, members of the community may access these spaces while security concerns associated with joint-use are addressed. From the main entrance drive, users enter the building by means of a covered entry structure. Visitors enter the vestibule and are routed through the reception area for check-in prior to gaining access to the building. The entry vestibule leads to an open lobby at the intersection of the 2-story academic wing to the left and the single-story, community-use functions to the right. At the intersection of the two wings is the Media Center – a focal point and key element of the design.
