AKRON GENERAL MEDICAL CENTER - RESIDENT AREA INTERIOR RENOVATIONS
At the request of Akron General, TC Architects turned their well-worn, outdated residence areas into upscale retreats for their Doctors in Residence. The hospital needed to triple their current locker capacity, as well as provide an eating area, TV lounge, and more areas for computer access. To create this upscale atmosphere, TC Architects replaced the painted lockers with custom lockers and relocated them to the perimeter walls. The food prep and eating areas were relocated closer to the main door, making these areas easily accessible to the busy Residents. The TV lounge offers soft seating including two sofas and four recliners to act as a buffer between the eating area and the technology center, which now has three dedicated computer areas to accommodate up to twelve users at a time. The wood paneling throughout the area blends with the wood-paneled custom lockers used throughout the space to create the inviting, upscale setting.
