AKRON METROPOLITAN HOUSING AUTHORITY - HONEY LOCUST EXTERIOR RENOVATION

TC Architects was selected to update the appearance of a 1970’s, 13-building, 145-unit, Public Housing Development.  AMHA wanted the dated affordable housing development to project a less institutional look and to make it indistinguishable from the area’s market rate developments, while maintaining a very tight budget.

TC Architects enhanced the aesthetics of the existing garden apartment buildings by adding gabled roofs to the existing rooflines to identify individual unit and building entrances.

Decorative brackets were installed at the townhouses’ front doors to increase each unit’s individuality.  The transformation included installing new gridded windows and horizontal vinyl siding with large trim accessories, adding to the complex’s appeal. Additional “non” institutional elements were selected, such as decorative exterior building lights and designer address plaques.
