ALPHA PHI ALPHA HOMES - CALLIS TOWER

Callis Tower, originally built in 1970, is a 15-story, 277-unit apartment building for senior and disabled citizens.  Through HUD and the tax credit program, the extensive renovation and partial remodeling of the affordable senior housing building was planned.

TC Architects prepared a comprehensive needs assessment followed by a scope of work.  As anticipated, since the building was 35 years old, most systems, components and finishes were either at or beyond their useful life.

The renovation included restoration of the façade.  Ten percent of the apartment units were completely remodeled to make those units fully accessible.  On the first floor of the affordable senior housing building, all common areas such as offices, lounge, community room, building entrances, toilet rooms, and craft room were totally redesigned and reworked.  All common space areas will comply with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
