ALPHA PHI ALPHA HOMES - WILLIAMS TOWER

TC Architects completed the comprehensive renovation of Williams Tower, a ten-story, 148-unit affordable housing apartment building for disabled and senior citizens, which was originally built in 1978. 
 
The renovation of the affordable housing building included: façade restoration, new carpeting and tile; appliances including electric range, refrigerator, and disposal; new kitchen cabinets, countertops and sink; replacement of all windows and doors; replacement of bathroom fixtures, sink tops and vanities; and replacement of all switches, outlets, and smoke detectors. All kitchen appliances and light fixtures are ENERGY STAR®-rated.  Additionally, new hot-water heaters were installed.  All units were freshly painted.  The emergency generator was replaced with one capable of operating both of the completely upgraded elevators, powering all emergency lighting and fire pump.
 
Common areas on the first floor have been redesigned and comply with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  These areas include offices, lounge, community room, toilet rooms, beauty salon and craft room.  Ten percent of the apartment units are now fully accessible.
 
Ingress and egress to the building has been enhanced by a covered drop-off area.  Existing swing doors were replaced with fully automatic sliding doors that operate utilizing a key fob system that will monitor who is operating the door.  The affordable housing facility has been enhanced with the installation of security cameras at all entrances and at key locations around the exterior of the building, providing coverage of all parking areas and walkways.
