EHDOC - J. MICHAEL FITZGERALD APARTMENTS
TC Architects provided architectural design services for this proposed 63-unit affordable senior housing building. This housing facility has been submitted for HUD Section 202 funding with Elderly Housing Development & Operations Corporation (EHDOC).
The proposed four-story building will be located on 1.66 acres of land within the 155-acre North Park Development. EHDOC currently manages 180 units for the City, as well as Senate Apartments and Prete Apartments. The site is well served by public transportation within the development, as well as many facilities within walking distance for residents.
The site, building, and apartments will be visitable; twenty percent of the units will be fully accessible and twenty percent of the remaining units will be designed to accommodate the sight and hearing impaired. All affordable senior housing units will be one-bedroom, one-bath apartments designed for independent senior living. The facility will provide covered vehicular pick up and drop off and a 32-car parking lot, including 5 handicapped spaces.
The exterior of the building will be brick, similar to the adjacent building, and will use asphalt and metal roofing materials. The covered vehicular pick up and drop off area will be located on the south side of the building, as well as pedestrian and vehicular access to the site and building. A possible connection to the existing housing would create a landscaped courtyard for outdoor functions.
The first floor of the building is designed to provide various opportunities for socialization, recreation, and resident services by incorporating a waiting area, lobby, mail area, lounge, service coordinator, library/computer center, community room with serving kitchen, and a health and wellness center.
The affordable senior housing building has been designed using universal design concepts and green principles. Energy efficiency and sustainability will be encouraged through the use of ENERGY STAR®- rated equipment and green products to the highest degree possible.
