EHDOC - JOHN B. ROBERTS APARTMENTS
This proposed three-story, 60-unit affordable senior housing building has been submitted for HUD Section 202 funding with Elderly Housing Development & Operations Corporation (EHDOC).
The building will be located near Dino Papavero Senior Centre and John Piazza Apartments, which are both owned and operated by EHDOC. The 2.97-acre site is well served by public transportation and many medical, shopping, and civic facilities within walking distance for residents.
The site, building, and apartments will be visitable; five percent of the units will be fully accessible and two percent of the units will be designed to accommodate the sight and hearing impaired. The affordable senior housing facility will provide covered vehicular pick up and drop off and a 68-car parking lot, including 5 handicapped spaces; one of which will be van accessible.
Inside, the building will contain 60 one-bedroom, one-bath apartments designed for independent senior living with well-proportioned spaces and ample daylighting. The exterior of the building will be stone, stucco and clay roof tile to coincide with the nearby John Piazza Apartments. A covered porch near the building entrance and patio off the Community Room will provide outdoor space for social activities.
The first floor of the building is designed to provide various opportunities for socialization, recreation, and resident services by incorporating a waiting area, lobby, mail area, lounge, service coordinator, library/computer center, community room with serving kitchen, and health and wellness center.
The affordable senior housing building has been designed using universal design concepts and green principles. Energy efficiency and sustainability will be encouraged through the use of ENERGY STAR®-rated equipment and green products to the highest degree possible.
