LAKE COUNTY DOG SHELTER
TC Architects collaborated with Lake County to relocate the Dog Shelter from a small, antiquated facility, into an existing, 11,430 square foot county-owned building that had been vacant for nearly a decade. This gave Lake County Dog Shelter the opportunity to relocate and expand.
The renovated facility provides the shelter with four times the number of runs and a separate area for reclaimed and adoptable dogs. The new facility also includes isolation areas, exam, grooming and get acquainted rooms. In addition to the pet areas, there are administrative offices, a conference room and a break area.
The project team used geothermal heating and cooling to help with the life-cycle fuel cost of the facility. Natural light was used in the kennel areas to reduce artificial lighting usage and costs.
