NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT SERVICES - WASHINGTON SQUARE APARTMENTS RENOVATION

TC Architects provided architectural and interior design services for the renovation of this affordable housing apartment complex.  Built in 1994, the property was rundown and had been foreclosed upon.  Neighborhood Development Services redeveloped the property before turning it over to the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority to supplement their affordable housing opportunities in the community.

The buildings now feature exterior materials that are maintenance free, including fiber cement board siding, brick, stone caps, vinyl windows and composite railings.  The buildings are enhanced by the use of bold, muted colors with a variety of siding sizes and styles to create a dynamic appearance.

The front doors and porches face the drive, providing a passive design solution to improve security in the development.  The back patios are trellised for privacy.

All units are visitable and follow the Green Community standards to enhance marketability and provide low cost operation for the tenants.

The comprehensive renovation transformed these dilapidated buildings into market-rate affordable housing townhomes.
