TC Architects - Under Construction

AKRON METROPOLITAN HOUSING AUTHORITY - EDGEWOOD VILLAGE UNDER CONSTRUCTION

TC Architects is the Architect for AMHA’s Edgewood Village Hope VI Revitalization. Edgewood consists of the demolition of the existing Edgewood Homes, which was 116 units of severely distressed, barrack style housing that was typical of its time period, and several single family homes. The new Edgewood Village will be constructed in three phases; the first phase is complete and consists of the construction of 80 new housing units made up of two, three, and four bedroom attached and detached homes. The new housing is a mix of one and two story buildings, some with basements. Phase two, which just started construction, will be similar to phase one and includes 48 new housing units. Phase three, which is currently in the design phase, will be constructed along a major commercial road and is being designed with a mix of retail and offices on the street level with housing units above. The total number of new housing units in the Edgewood Village Revitalization will be 221.  This area of the City is being reconfigured into a traditional neighborhood grid pattern of streets and parks based upon Principles for Inner City Neighborhood Design, as developed jointly by HUD and Congress for the New Urbanism. Edgewood Village also incorporates the AIA’s 10 principles for livable communities, which “improves livability and the quality of life.” The site design will feature a round-a-bout and a new community green space located in the center of the development.

All ranch and townhouse units will have a front door and porch facing a public street, and a garage with a rear entrance off of an alley. All units are visitable and incorporate universal design concepts. The buildings are designed utilizing energy efficient and green products to provide marketability and the lowest cost of operation and sustainability for the owner.
