EHDOC - PIAZZA APARTMENTS
Piazza Apartments is a new, 62 unit, senior citizen apartment building designed for independent living.
Our client, EHDOC, a national non-profit housing developer was awarded these units under the highly competitive Department of Housing and Urban Development 202 Program. TC Architects was a key part of the application, developing conceptual site and building plans as part of the application for funds.
The building is located adjacent to an existing 10-story EHDOC property and in a residential area. The design of the new 4-story building serves as a transition into the low-rise residential area. The façade reflects design characteristics of the Mission and Arts and Crafts styles, which are the dominant influence in that part of the country.
The design of the building provides for visitability to all of the common areas in the building and to the 62 one bedroom apartments. Five percent of the apartments are designed to be fully accessible. The first floor of the building is designed to provide for various opportunities for social interaction and resident services. The area will have a lobby, mail area, lounge, service coordinator, library/computer center, community room and health and wellness center.
